2010

YEAR IN REVIEW: Despite promises, the year passes without much progress on a sixth Blink album. Tom focuses on two Angeles & Airwaves album and a film, leaving Travis time to collaborate with other artists and work on his solo album, and Mark the opportunity to host his own TV show, A Different Spin (later retitled Hoppus on Music). In August, Blink continue their "greatest hits" tour into Europe, ending with a triumphant gig closing Reading.

 

1/4/2010: Mark begins working with the group 10HRSattheMACHINE, later renamed City (Comma) State. He later discusses its creation and his involvement in 2011: "We had some time off from Blink, [...] and it kind of fell apart."

1/5/2010: Mark claims to be “scheduling” Blink recording.

1/6/2010: MTV News publishes an article announcing Mark and Pete Wentz’s collaborative tune “In Transit”.

1/11/2010: A teaser trailer for the Blinkumentary is uploaded.

1/19/2010: MTV News reports the reunion album is set for... 2010!

1/25/2010: Tom tells Billboard the Blink album won't be out until 2011.

1/26/2010: Mark tweets: "2011 is too far away. Gonna do all I can to have a Blink-182 album in 2010."

1/29/2010: Mark, to MTV News: "We decided we were going to take a couple of months and chill and do other stuff, then get back together in the beginning of the year. And now that it's almost February, we decided it's time to get back in the studio and do what we do."

2/1/2010: Travis weighs in on a new album: "We're about to start working on it..."

2/8/2010: Mark's in the studio working on 10HRSattheMACHINE. Mark confirms it is not a solo project: "It's something I'm doing with friends while Tom finishes his album. Then blink-182!!"

2/10/2010: Tom claims to be “outlining” how the album will begin production.

2/12/2010: Angels & Airwaves’ third album, Love, is released.

3/4/2010: Tom, in a Modlife stream, reportedly says AVA is “100%” him while Blink only encompasses “30%” of himself.

4/16/2010: Mark admits Blink-182 is on “down time” preceding the European tour.

4/26/2010: A Chicago Tribune piece on Tom says the album expects to begin production in June.

5/23/2010: Tom admits he has yet to write any songs for Blink: “Coming (later) this year, I’ll have to start writing those songs…”

5/27/2010: Mark optimistically tweets “Counting down the days till blink-182 is back in the studio to rehearse and write.”

6/17/2010: Kerrang! publishes a promo piece for the upcoming tour; it reports the band will be in the studio that week.

6/18/2010: The first press for A Different Spin — later retitled Hoppus on Musiccomes from FMQB.

6/20/2010: Mark reiterates the intention is to “write new songs” preceding the Euro tour.

6/23/2010: Mark posts on his blog the album will be in production... soon: "Blink-182 is full-steam ahead! In June and July we will be at the rehearsal spot, getting ready for the European tour this summer, and writing new songs."

6/25/2010: Tom posts on his Modlife blog he has “officially” begun to write for Blink.

6/27/2010: Mark, on his blog, earnestly fantasizes about a full-time band: “monday the blink-182’s are back to it!! i can’t wait for the three of us to all be in the same room playing music again. it’s been WAYYYY too long.”

7/7/2010: Mark posts on Facebook that he spent all day working on Neighborhoods solo, then spoke with Tom for an hour on the phone about the upcoming album.

7/9/2010: Mark and Tom go on Kevin and Bean at KROQ to tease the delayed new album and promote their Europe shows. Video 1, Video 2

7/21/2010: Tom says work has “slowly” begun.

7/22/2010: Travis says work will in earnest begin after the European tour.

7/30/2010: Mark posts an update at the rehearsal studio.

8/16/2010: The band performs at Press & Journal Arena in Aberdeen, Scotland, beginning the second leg of the reunion tour.

8/17/2010: The band performs at Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

9/5/2010: Mark tweets: “Now back in the USA. Let's record an album!”

9/26/2010: The band performs at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, as a part of Epicenter. Interview, Video

10/5/2010: Mark tweets the album is officially “re-commencing”; Travis is recording drums for the album.

10/8/2010: Mark claims to be working on a Blink song titled “Not for Real”.

10/9/2010: Mark posts a lengthy studio update on his Bompa (formerly pickRset) blog, calling the day before “the first real dip back into recording up here in LA since the tour ended.”

10/19/2010: Mark posts a studio update on YouTube; tweets that he is writing a song from scratch this date.

10/20/2010: The song has now developed into a “fast, punk-rock jam” according to Mark. Perhaps “Heart’s All Gone”?

10/23/2010: Tom shares a purported Blink demo on Modlife; Mark/Travis claim to have never heard it until he posted it.

11/2/2010: The band join together in the studio — potentially the first time since April 2009 — and are recording. Tom posts a photo on Facebook; from the image, it appears to be Tom’s San Diego space.

11/11/2010: Plans for the 2011 European tour leak.

11/18/2010: Mark writes a lengthy Bompa album update post, revealing that ten songs are in the works. Also of note: a Tom-developed song is “pretty much done,” and the trio have decided they hope to deliver the album in April or May. On this date, the three are also in the studio for a photo shoot by Lisa Johnson from Kerrang!

11/22/2010: Blink formerly announce the later-scrapped 2011 European tour.

10/25/2010: Mark says they have 7-8 song “ideas”.

12/14/2010: Mark to MTV, after what appears to be a full year of little progress: "We're still just barely getting into the whole writing process."
